Welcome to Breakfast Champion!
Personally, I'm a no beans in a fry-up man, but each to their own I guess...
So, read on for all you need/want to know about how to place an order, a little bit about the guys behind the scenes, and an overview of our ever growing product list!
How Do I Order?
First up, probably the most important bit, where do you need to go to have a butchers (see what I did there?) at what we have to offer? There are two ways to get there;
1. Go to our official WeChat account and click on order>store,
2. Simply copy and paste www.breakfastchampion.cn into your internet browser of choice (if you want to use Alipay this is the option you need).
On your first visit you'll need to set up a profile (you'll want your phone number, Chinese address, email, and your name at hand), but after that you'll not have to input any details again.
We accept payment via WeChat or Alipay (though if you want to use the latter you'll need to open the store outside of WeChat, for understandable reasons), and on checkout you can choose your delivery date. We use SF Express for all deliveries, and once we have handed over your box to the courier (usually early evening the day before delivery) you will be able to track it via your store profile.
If you have any questions after placing your order please contact us on one of our customer service accounts (North or South, QR codes above), and have your five digit order code, which will be sent to you once you have completed your order, handy (just makes it a lot easier for us).
A Little About Us
In 2016, having been sausage and bacon-less in China for three years, our resident Nornirish chef, Andrew, decided to take matters into his own hands, and began what would go on to become the Breakfast Champion you see before you today! He started out making the products himself, taking the orders, packing the orders, and doing the deliveries himself on his trusty ebike (Shanghai only at that point). Originally, Breakfast Champion was focussed on the core essentials of bacon, sausages, and black pudding, but we've come a long way since then (baby)!
At the same point in time, just down the road in Ningbo, two Brits (one Geordie, one West Midlander) were Jonesing for non-elaborate bacon themselves. I had personally looked into buying a sausage machine, but felt the outlay was too much if it was just going to be for me. Thankfully, we had a mutual friend with Andrew, who posted about the then brand new business in his WeChat Moments. We ordered, ate it, loved it, and straight away came up with a plan to get it for free...I mean a way to work with Andrew and grow the business, that's it.
And the final piece of the jigsaw dropped into place when we made our relationship with Andrew's old friend Glaswegian George official (we liked it, so we put a ring on it). We couldn't have moved from the whole one man and his ebike operation to the current delivering to every corner of China one without him. We each have our role, and George makes sure the bacon and sausages not only get made, but get made to the highest of standards. So it's him you can thank the next time you're stuffing a bacon sandwich in your face.
Literally the only picture I have of George. I promise you we're happier than we look here...
Come spring 2017 we had the dream trio fully in place, and by the time 2018 came around we'd really started motoring. Adding great products to our expanding lists, and pushing ever further into China to bring the delights of a proper fry-up to everyone here. We spent pretty much the whole of 2019 honing our online store to get it just right, with the plan being to launch it after Spring Festival 2020. That launch went entirely to plan, completely smoothly, nothing happened in 2020 that would have caused any issues at all: Nothing to see here. And we spent most of last year (2021) building our import game to ever higher levels, with our range of pantry products from back 'home' expanding at a rate of knots. We now supply over...actually, I lost count, but it's bloody loads; beginning of 2020 it was already over 70 products, and we've added absolutely tonnes (literally) of stuff in the two years since then.
Award Winning?
Yep, you heard it right. Last year, after putting in the best part of five years of solid work, we were nominated for, and won, the That's Shanghai People's Choice Award for Delivery App of the Year! This was voted for by you guys, so it means so much more.
Winning has only spurred us on to become bigger and better, and we can't wait to defend our title later this year.
Our Product Range
We make sure that everything we sell/produce comes from high quality, sustainable sources. We import our beef and lamb from Australia, our pork from the UK (including our growing range of Brydock Happy Pig products), and when we source locally we make sure only to use the highest quality, highest welfare produce.
When we're not talking with you guys directly through the customer service accounts (QR codes above), we spend a lot of our time sourcing new products, coming up with new recipes/improving our existing ones, and doing rounds of samples to make sure that what ends up in our store are nothing but the best. This involves having to eat said samples repeatedly; hard job, someone's got to do it.
In the past year alone we've added our all-conquering proper British-style Pork Pies, Vegan Haggis, that great British (Australian, Kiwi, and Maine) culinary classic, the Saveloy, Nando's Sauces, Sliced Doner Kebab, Thompson's Tea Bags, Limited Edition Irish Pork & Stout Sausages, Bisto, a range of Colman's, Levi Roots' Reggae Reggae Sauces, and the wonderful Branston Pickle, (English) Muffins, Pita, and Laffa Bread, Ploughman's Lunches, a range of great breakfast cereals, more cheeses, four new Pork Pie flavours, CRUMPETS!, Sausage Rolls, Potato Farls/Tattie Scones (these sell out faster than we can make them every time), Monster Munch (though this was a limited time offer, for now), Fox's Biscuits, a range of Iceland goodies (the supermarket, not the country), and most recently a couple of great Ketchups from Curtice Brothers!
And new to the store in 2020 were Lamb Mince & Minted Lamb Burgers, Marinaded Chicken, a range of Crisps, Jams, & Buckfast Tonic Wine, more condiments than you can shake a stick at (with lots more on the way), a whole range of Gourmet Sausages, great Cheeses & Butter, a range of British Pork, a growing range of Proper Chocolate (& Biscuits), our great Weekend Roast range (including individual joints and complete meal packs), Tea(bags) & Coffee, Chip Shop Sausages, Duck Breasts, Turkey Mince, and Turkey Burgers.
And that's not forgetting our fantastic ranges for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
